The zoo, located in the Dois Irmãos State Park, is home to species that are important to Brazilian biodiversity, including the mealy amazon (Amazona farinosa), a bird of the Psittaciformes family. These animals live in flocks and social interaction is necessary for their survival. Little information is available to assist in the ex situ management of the species, which is necessary to ensure a good quality of life for the specimens. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of social environmental enrichment among male mealy amazon, creating a pairing protocol for the species Amazona farinosa in the zoo of Dois Irmãos State Park. Observations were made before, during and after the individuals were brought together, using the ad libitum and focal animal methods to compile the ethogram and record behaviors, for a total of 42 hours of data collection. At the end of the study, six social behavioral repertoires were recorded that are referred to in the literature as affiliative behaviors. "Allopreening" and "standing side by side" are examples of repertoires that strengthen bonds between individuals, "vocalization" is used for recognition and calls for attention in the group. "Beak to beak" can be characterized as agonistic behavior when individuals don't know each other, but it is also a form of greeting and showing affection. Therefore, the creation and implementation of the Amazona farinosa pairing protocol in the Dois Irmãos State Park was a success, guaranteeing the well-being of the animals, and it is necessary to test it in other institutions to confirm the effectiveness of the protocol.
