Abstract

The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect structures the distribution of macrofauna and meiofauna around the tube D. cuprea. To observe the influence of groups meiofauna community in sediments near and far to the tube, a gathering was held in June 1998 on the south side of the Coroa of Avião situated on the northen coast of Pernambuco State. The samples were collected using a disposable syringe adapted cylinder inserted into a PVC pipe, both measuring 5 cm in height. The tube away (A) had 4.8 cm diameter (12.7 cm2 of the inner area excluding the area near the pipe) and pipe close (AD) 2,6 cm2 in diameter (5.3 cm2 of the inner area). Meiofauna samples were fixed with 10% formaldehyde saline and animals were separated from the sediment washing the samples through a 1.0 mm sieve mesh size to exclude macrofauna and a 0.044 sieve mesh size to retain the meiofauna. Groups meiofauna community found is sediments near and far were: Nematoda, Turbellaria, Rotifera, Copepoda, nauplii Copepoda, Ostracoda, Tardigrada, Polychaeta, Oligochaeta, Kinorhyncha. Total average meiofauna density ranged from 7811 ind.10 cm2 (next) to 1974, 3 ind.10 cm2 (away). Chlorophyll-a values ranged from 0,2 µg.g or 0,7 µg.cm2 (away) to 2,6 µg.g or 7,9 µg.cm2 (next) Sediments away and next respectively. Since those of feopigments were almost higher (0,5 µg.g or 3,3 µg.cm2 (away) e 8,0 µg.g or 31,5 µg.cm2 (next) and sediment grain size from 1,845 to 2,242ø. Through the results we can conclude that D. cuprea tubes influence the distribution of groups meiofauna, when coupled whit the availability of food, may mean that the amount of microphytobenthos be a limiting factor for these differences in densities.
